Dear Parents

Another successful week of school have come and gone. The students are becoming more adjusted to the new school year and the smiles and excitement about learning and discovery are filling the halls of Ascot Primary.

This week the students got to meet the Primary School’s new Student Council made up of the elected House Prefects and Deputy Prefects and led by the nominated Head Boy and Girl of the school.  Pictures of our student council will be posted on this blog later today. Together with Mr. Williams (teacher  representative on the Student Council) and the Secondary Student Council, the Primary Student Council will be responsible for being model students of Ascot and will be tasked with coming up with ideas and plans to improve their school.  Just a few reminders today for all parents:

  1. Please make sure to regularly check your child’s hair for lice and if lice is discovered please ensure that the proper shampoo is used and that your child does not return to school until all signs of lice are gone. The school policy stipulates that if lice eggs are found in a child’s hair at the school they will be separated from the other students and their parents will be called to pick them up. The school nurse will inform them of what actions to take to get rid of the lice. When the child returns to school the nurse will also do a final check to make sure that the child’s hair is lice free. If a live lice body is found in a child’s hair the same procedure applies but we ask parents to keep the child home from school for one extra day to give time for the treatment to work.
  2. Swimming is a part of Ascot’s Primary curriculum and students are expected to attend classes the same way they would attend Math or English. The ability to swim and swimming safety are critical life skills that all children should learn. If your child is unable to swim due to illness please send a letter from your child’s doctor to your child’s teacher through the school contact book. If they are other extenuating circumstances please inform your child’s teacher directly. Other than these two situations, students will be expected to bring their swim suit and participate in their weekly swimming lesson.

If you have any questions about any of the above items please feel free to contact your child’s Homeroom Teacher. Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend.
