Dear Parents

Another week has come and gone and the end of Term 1 is fast approaching. Last week was an exciting one filled with lots of activities related to our annual Book Week. From our daily guest reader in the library to our Extreme Reading competition, literacy was promoted at every opportunity. Please visit our class blogs and this blog for pictures from Book Week.

Next week we will be having our assessment period in Primary. This will be an opportunity for our teachers to assess the progress of our students. Although informal formative assessments are done throughout the school year, next week will consist of more formal assessments. We encourage you to have your child prepare by ensuring they get lots of rest, eat a full breakfast and spend time reviewing some of the key concepts and ideas they have been learning about over the past few months. We encourage you not to place an undue amount of pressure on them as this tends to have a negative impact on their confidence and performance.

This week there are a couple of items so please pay attention to the following:

1. The deadline for payment for this year's residentials is November 20th. As we are aware that some parents may need some more time in deciding about their child's attendance we will be extending the deadline by one week to November 27th. We encourage parents to send their child on the residentials as the benefits of residentials are well researched. Residentials are an opportunity for students to develop independence, build confidence and participate in experiential learning opportunities. For further information about the benefits of residentials please review this study carried out by UNESCO. If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming residentials please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.

2. The second curriculum presentation for this year will be held on Wednesday  December 2nd from 8:00 to 9:00. This presentation will be about the English curriculum in Primary and the new initiatives that are being introduced to enhance the existing curriculum. It will also be an opportunity to have a discussion about how we can create a community of readers here at Ascot International School. Further reminders and details in regards to the location will be sent out to parents as the date draws nearer.

Have a great weekend and thank you for your continued support.

Ascot International Primary School Team
