Ascot EY&PY News

Dear Parents,

We are starting to get close to the end of Term 1 and what a busy term it has been. Over the past few weeks there have been many activities happening in our school both involving our students and our parents as well. Today we have two classes, Year 3 and 5, out on their termly field trips. Year 5 is extending their study of "Where We Are In Place And Time" by visiting the ancient capital, Ayutthaya and our Year 3 students are visiting Dream World  which will help with their writing of recounts and with their final project for their Unit of Inquiry, which requires them to create their own world.

We have also had presentations for our parents during the past few weeks including our residential presentations for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 students. Please remember to return your child's permission slip to ensure that they won't miss out on these great learning opportunities and life experiences. This past week we also invited parents into school to learn about our newest curricula initiative, Social Emotional Learning and Mindfulness. I was very happy to hear that parents were as excited about this new initiative as our students have been.

During the coming weeks we have a very busy schedule of activities for both students and for parents. Next week we will be having our Learning Journey conferences in the Early Years. This is a great opportunity for parents to observe one of their child's lessons and see how their child is progressing. We will also be having our Keystage 2 Open day on November 28th and 29th. On November 28th we will be hosting a presentation to parents that will provide information about assessments and reporting at Ascot PY and EY. This presentation will provide parents with a clear understanding of how we assess and report the progress of their child. This will help parents have a better understanding of their child's report card, which will be sent home on December 8th.

We will also be having our termly EY field trips for our KG and Reception students. Our KG students will be visiting Kidzania on Wednesday November 23rd to learn more about the jobs we do and our Reception students will be visiting Snow Town on December 1st to learn more about Christmas and winter. One parent per child has been invited to accompany us on these wonderful trips.

Our final event of Term 1 and the calendar year will be our EY and PY Christmas performances. Our students have been hard at work practicing their singing, dancing and acting to ensure that they put on the best show for you on December 8th.

With so much going on, it can be easy to forget or not be fully aware of all of these upcoming events. Teachers will be reminding parents about these events through their weekly review and preview emails so please pay close attention to these emails.
