The Importance of Mastery in Education

Although Mr. Sal Khan is talking mainly about Secondary students in this illuminating video, mastery is even more important to Early and Primary Years students as they are laying the foundation for all future learning. Mastery is a crucial aspect of a child's ability that we assess for at Ascot EY and PY. A child's ability to meet a target once is not an indicator of success or a reason to move on to a harder target. A child's ability to consistently meet a target is one of the teaching goals of our teachers.
